In a Vase on Sunday: Merry Christmas!

In my family, Christmas Eve has always been the focal point of our year-end holiday celebrations.  As my husband and I will host a few friends for our annual Smörgåsbord on Sunday afternoon, I prepared flowers for the table on Saturday, cutting stems of many of my favorite plants, including Grevilleas, Leucadendron and Nandina domestica.

Merry Christmas to all!

And best wishes for a wonderful new year!

As Christmas falls on Monday, Cathy of Rambling in the Garden is streamlining her usual "In a Vase on Monday" post but visit her there to see what she and others pull together over the holiday.

  4. Merry Christmas to you and your husband. The grevillea always looks so exotic. Works well with the nandina berries.

  6. Merry Christmas Kris! That's a very pretty arrangement, the Grevillea gives it a rather airy quality.

    1. Oh dear. I heard that there was snow up in the PNW. There's no precipitation of any kind here, Loree, and it's fairly warm - you'd love it!

    1. I've had no formal instruction in floral design but I continue to learn new things from those who participate in the IAVOM meme. Best wishes for the holidays!

    1. I've mixed feelings about Nandinas, Amelia - they can quickly lose their shape when they're not pruned carefully. Those I inherited with the garden weren't very shapely to begin with and my efforts to whip them back into condition can be described as half-hearted at best. But they're partially hidden next to the house and I can pilfer their berries at will, which makes them useful.

      Merry Christmas!

  12. Hi Kris, phew I just made it on time to wish you a very Merry Christmas before it is all over again. In Germany we have one more holiday tomorrow which is so much more reasonable.:-)
Your bouquet is very lovely and I hope you had a wonderful celebration with your friends.

  14. Are the berries from the nandina? They are wonderful and really bring out the red in the grevillia. Thanks for sharing Kris, and have a lovely time with your family

    1. The berries are from the Nandina, Cathy. Unlike the Nandina's flowers, the berries have great staying power in a vase. Happy Boxing Day to you!

    1. There are LOTS of new Nandina cultivars now, some dwarfs and some with usual coloration. You'll have to explore the options, Alison!

I've missed so much over the past few weeks, but I did peek in and enjoy the shot of Pipig under the tree. :) I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
