Retrieved from the cutting room floor

It's gotten so I grab my camera every time I see something I think is pretty or that I find amusing.  Most of these photos never see the light of day but this week, in need of something to cut the edge of gloom that accompanies every newscast, I decided to publish a random collection of images that caught my attention this week.

Sunday, November 13th: Sailboats surrounding the Los Angeles Harbor breakwater

Monday, November 14th: Supermoon rising over the Los Angeles Harbor

Tuesday, November 15th: Sunset viewed looking northeast

The same sunset, viewed looking west

Thursday, November 17th: Pumpkin demolition in process

I hope you enjoy your weekend!

  2. Can't bear the news right now.

NOAA says 100% chance of rain tomorrow night--that at least is hopeful.

    1. It's been raining here off and on since late morning! While not exactly a downpour, it's real honest-to-goodness rain this time.

  4. That sunset is gorgeous! I haven't been taking my camera out much, even though I just got a new one and I want to play with it. My energy has been low and I've been using what I have on work and studying. The news isn't helping, but your photos do.

    1. We've had so few clouds to play up the sunsets recently, it was nice to see one that made the most of the light.

On the good-news front, it's been raining here all day.

    1. I think we have to pace ourselves on the news consumption - it seems that it's going to be gloomy for a while...

    1. It was a lovely moon but I couldn't really any difference between the supermoon and the earlier harvest moon.

  9. That big building in the first photo, Warehouse One, is near where Marty spent a lot of the last 30 years at the LA Harbor Pilots, so these vast panoramas translate into intimate views for us. I even rode one of the big ships once, climbing up the side on a freely swinging Jacob's ladder -- which sounds crazy now. We had pirate treasure hunts when the boys were little in those waters and sand bars. So I've spent a lot of time in your current view!

    1. Kudos to you for scrambling up the side of a big ship, Denise! I suspect I'd end up in the water if I tried climbing on a swinging ladder - I had a hard enough time maneuvering the stairs on the USS Iowa. My husband and I need to get out and explore the area within our view more closely sometime soon.

  10. I've been doing similarly. I need to demonstrate that 'life goes on.' Nice shots, Kris. Just like the birds eating all my winterberries well before Christmas, don't you wish the squirrels would at least leave off eating the pumpkins until after Thanksgiving? ;)

    1. I'm just happy they left the pumpkins alone until after Halloween, Eliza! I discovered that 2 of the mini-pumpkins were missing yesterday - so far, I've only found the remains of one of those.

  11. I think we are all trying to deal with the current news situation in similar ways; gaining enjoyment from the simple things. I never tire of your stunning view, it is beautiful at all times of day and in all lights. Great news about your rain!!

  13. Now I'm late to the garden party! These photos are delightful and a nice pick me up. I had commented to someone on Instagram that bad news is sensational and grabs our attention (man, there is a lot these days!), but good news and beauty are found intentionally. Thanks for sharing the good and the beautiful.

  14. You have wonderful views! Thanks for sharing them. Also like the squirrel sharing the pumpkin bounty. Better than throwing them in the trash.

    1. I agree - the squirrel will get the succulent-topped pumpkin (sans succulents) after Thanksgiving too.
