Wednesday Vignette: A pleasing combination

Mindful that Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day is just a day away, I'm limiting this post to a single image, collected as I was taking photos of my flowering plants for tomorrow's post.

The yellow-flowered Lantana, while no longer at its peak, picks up the similarly-colored edging of Agave multicolor next to it.  I'd like to say that was planned but it wasn't.  It was simply a lucky coincidence.

I'm feeling calmer this week.  I scaled back my news consumption; completed my ballot and mailed it (with ballot tracking turned on to follow its delivery to the Los Angeles Registrar of Voters, which confirmed receipt); and even took care of my large backlog of ironing.  Before the newest heatwave settled in, I also got started on one one of my fall garden projects.  Addressing what's within my control while turning off the noise relating to what I can't control was the ticket.

  1. We live in Temecula Ca. Our ballots were mailed on Sept. 28 and we still have not received them. I enjoy reading about your garden adventures. And your home renovation was very fun to follow. I also do not like disarray and would have been as stressed as you. Thank goodness it was completed before COVID-19!

    1. Yes, I've difficulty imagining how awful it would be if it were going through a remodel now. However, our neighbors across the street are doing just that (their second in less than 4 years) right now.

  2. Scaling back news consumption is difficult as election day approaches, but it is a sure way to calm down. Ironing helps my mind slow down and relax.
'Happy accidents' seems to be a theme this week. Lovely.

    1. Since I've already voted, I currently feel free to ignore all further pre-election hoopla. Ironing is one of my least favorite household chores but getting caught up did give me a sense of accomplishment.

  3. I don't ever listen to the news anymore. It's not worth getting all worked up about.
I just received a second ballot in the mail today. Not sure what that means, but our city made the national news last week, something about the ballots sent out were wrong. Just wish we could skip this election altogether.

    1. I remember hearing that some locations had a problem with mis-printed ballots, Cindy. It's good you got a timely replacement.

  5. Yes it's good to shut off the news now and again. Since the lockdown am rarely in the car which is where I would hear news. Must say for the most part I am serene and happy to be out of the news rat race.

    1. I have an unhealthy compulsion to act on issues in general, whether they be personal or public, so it's hard for me to shut off news entirely but I'm trying harder to sort out what's really actionable and what's merely manipulative diversionary tactics.

  6. What a lovely coincident. It is so much fun when you realize you have done something interesting and pretty.

    1. If only I had more incidents of serendipity in my garden, Lisa!

  7. The yellow lantana with darker green leaves does pair beautifully with your Agave multicolor. I must say that the Agave multicolor is gorgeous by itself! I have also escaped TV news for awhile and it is easy to catch-up on news when I elect to. I’m happy to know that my ballot has been received and I, like you, can ignore any of the flyers that I find in the mail or any TV advertisements. Rob and I also binged watched a show called “Utopia” and also watched a moving documentary that I highly recommend called “The Octopus Teacher.” Fortunately, we can always escape to our gardens or “visit” your garden via your blog! Thank you, Kris!

    1. Thanks Kay. I haven't convinced my spouse to go with Netflix but hopefully "My Octopus Teacher" will show up pn one of the services we subscribed to eventually.

  8. Yes it helps to turn off the crazy for a while. I've been reading the "Windcliff" book. Leaves me in a better place.

    1. I finished "Windcliff' and I'm in the middle of an off-beat mystery I'm really enjoying.
