In a Vase on Monday: The blues

It's been an odd spring.  It started off early as usual here in late February.  I posted photos of my first Dutch Iris on March 1st.  Unfortunately, as I ended up in the hospital, most of the Iris were gone by the time I got home later that month.  I only recently got back to doing any gardening.  My dahlia bulbs have gotten started in pots but it'll be a while before I see any flowers from them.  In the meantime, I'm making use of my blue flowers in the form of agapanthus and larkspur.  Here's this week's vase.

Too much?  Most of the noID Agapanthus came with house.  The flowers return reliably each year.

Back view: The larkspur (Consolida ajacis) flowered better this year than last but still not as well as in previous years.

Overhead view

Clockwise from the upper left: 'Abelia 'Hopley's Variegated, noID blue and white Agapanthus, Centranthus ruber 'Alba', noID Consolida ajacis, and Echium 'Star of Madeira'

After an extended heatwave in March, April was comfortable but it's been on the cool side for the past week.  I'm hoping for sunnier skies and warmer temperatures in the low 70s (22C) later this week.

  1. Too much? No, way. Never too much blue for me, especially when Centranthus ruber 'Alba' is added, both breaking up and punctuating the varies shades of blue. A wonderful vase. So glad to have you back: getting my Monday mornings back in order :-)

  4. You may remember how much I enjoy seeing your blue vases, Kris, so this one has bowled me over with its blueness! 😀How lovely to have all the components to hand in your garden. Are you able to 'garden' a little now, Kris? Do you hope to regain all your movement again in due course? I do hope so

    1. I have managed some actual work in the garden, Cathy! Most notably, I've got 26 dahlia bulbs planted, albeit most in temporary posts to start.

  5. I think it's very pretty! I never thought much of Agapanthus, but I actually really like the blooms - I've completely changed my mind on it over time. I'm happy to hear you are able to get out in the garden a bit. I think the heat is coming for us quite soon.

    1. After almost 2 weeks a heatwave when I was still in rehab in March, we had a stretch of pleasant weather but more recently it's been cold here (at least by our standards). I'm looking for temperatures in the lower 70s later this week.

    1. Some people in SoCal aren't impressed by Agapanthus but I've become fond of them over the years.

  12. Beautiful blues Kris ❤️ Here my larkspur are still just tiny seedlings in the greenhouse and agapanthus still have a long way to go before they flower. Good to read that you have been able to start some garden activities again and I hope that that you get those sunnier skies soon 🤞

  13. I bought two annual cinerarias this year and now the native delphiniums are starting up, so those fit right along with your blue theme.

    1. Regrettably, my cinerarias burned out early this year due to our February heatwave but at least my other blues are going strong!
