In a Vase on Monday: True Love

My nephew lost the center of his world, his fiancée Sofia, to cancer on Saturday.  Despite assertive efforts to save her life, she was lost to us little more than a month after she received her preliminary diagnosis.  Just 29 years old, she had a lot of life left to live and she and Alessio were already linked in pursuit of their life plans.  My heart hurts for him, her family and her friends.  I've thought of little else since I heard she was losing her battle so of course today's floral arrangement was created with Sofia, Alessio and the love they shared in mind.

The vase contains: Top row - Agonis flexuosa 'Nana', Caladium 'Debutante', and Correa pulchella 'Pink Eyre'
Middle row - Grevilleas 'Peaches & Cream' and 'Superb'
Bottom row - Cuphea micropetala, Mahonia x media 'Charity', and Osteospermum 'Double Moonglow'

  5. Losing your life to cancer at 29 is just so unfair - and within a month of diagnosis too... There will be a big hole in your hearts, Kris, and my thoughts are with you along with a big virtual hug. As Amanda said, your arrangement seems to be reaching out with a hug of its own...

  6. So sad and cruel that one so young should succumb to this horrid disease. I'm sorry for your loss and for Alessio's heartbreak. I can't imagine how sad he must feel. I'm sending some light his way.
Your vase is a lovely tribute, Kris, the grevillea is like love spiraling outwards. Beautiful.

  12. I love the way the correa is arrayed in the last photo. A friend of the family also died in his late 20s of malignant melanoma many years ago -- I was hoping there were better treatments available now. In reading the link, Sofia looks and sounds like a radiant person. My condolences on her loss, Kris.

  13. This is heart breaking. Thank you letting us know. Last week I sent a sympathy card to a Master Gardener friend whose husband died suddenly of liver cancer that had not been diagnosed. I'll share a phrase from my note on the card - I don't remember writing it but she told me she liked my words and I do too. I wrote about going from the shock of loss into the world of memories. I'm so sorry that you all are now experiencing these words and I hope to memories will eventually help heal the pain.
