Wednesday Vignette: That face!

A friend and I visited Sherman Gardens in Corona Del Mar on Saturday morning.  I'll post more of the photos I took during that excursion later but this photo, taken in the Tropical Conservatory, will serve as my Wednesday Vignette.  I know it's an anthropomorphic projection but the faces on these turtles, seemingly happy with their sunny, plant-filled paradise and pleased to be well beyond the reach of the nearby paparazzi, delighted me.  I hope you enjoy them too.

  1. I'm afraid Mitch McConnell has ruined turtles for me, but these little guys do look content.

    1. I love turtles, Nell, but it's true that McConnell has certainly put a negative spin on their benign demeanor!

  2. Haha - Nell's comment made me laugh in COMPLETE understanding, but yes - they do look wonderfully happy, sunbathing on their rock. :D

    1. I agree with Eliza's comment below - they look a bit smug to me. Maybe the McConnell reference is apt after all!

  4. You can tell these Red Ears are captive turtles. In the wild where I usually see them they wouldn't let you get near them. They are happy turtles no doubt. Fat and sassy.

    1. They rule that domain. There are even "beware: turtle crossing" signs elsewhere in the conservatory, although I've never seen them anywhere but on that rock, happily sunning themselves.

    1. That's a good way to look at it, Peter! A little sun on the face adds bliss.

  6. I think Nell and I were twins separated at birth, because that was my exact thought as well. But turtles don't deserve the comparison, because they're so very cool.

    1. Hopefully, turtles will regain their more positive image once McConnell and his near-sighted crew are but footnotes in the pitifully sad saga of the current administration, Denise.

  7. I didn't even think of Mitch McConnell until I read the others' comments. That is so funny! They do look happy. Maybe they are...

    1. I suspect all they want is provided to them, Beth. There are no signs that they're actively seeking the freedom of the larger garden.

  8. I think they look rather snooty.

    1. They're cute in their way - at least as long as they stay out of politics ;)
