Both of last week's floral arrangements are still in good shape. I edited them a little, gave them fresh water, and shuffled them into new positions. I didn't expect to find much I could use this week that wouldn't be a retread of recent arrangements but, once again, my garden delivered. I created one bouquet and used other cut stems to jazz up a store-bought wreath.
While I did use stems of my old standby, Grevillea 'Superb', I added stems of Metrosideros 'Springfire', which is suddenly covered in flowers, as well as fresh blooms of 2 Alstroemerias |

I initially stuck the store-bought wreath on its hook and just added a bow and one small ornament, planning to leave it at that. However, several stems of Leucadendron 'Safari Sunset' stood out when I walked into the garden on Sunday morning. I initially thought I'd put them in my floral arrangement but the wreath was begging for embellishment.
I decided that the red-tinged stems of both Leucadendron salignum 'Safari Sunset' and Coprosma repens 'Plum Hussey', originally cut for my vase, were a better fit with the red notes in the wreath |
Rain on Christmas Eve is still in the forecast as a possibility. One weather service gives our chance at thirty-five percent and another fifty-five percent, although they agree that the total precipitation isn't likely to amount to much. I have my fingers crossed nonetheless.

Well done on the wreath embellishment! Hopefully your rainy Christmas wish will come true.
ReplyDeleteWell, the good news is that the rain hasn't entirely disappeared from the forecast - the more cautious weather service is now showing a 50% chance of a brief interval of rain in early afternoon tomorrow and the other weather service still gives us a 55% chance. Neither projection suggests much in total, though.
Delete2M views! Happy Holidays and best gardening in the New Year
ReplyDeleteI'd wondered if I'd hit that 2M view mark by the time of my blog anniversary on December 29th but the meter clicked at some point this past Saturday. It did take almost 12 years to reach that point, though ;)
DeleteI did a double take when I saw the narcissi - they must be the first I have seen this winter season. And I am intrigued by the Leucadendron with its simple but pretty flowers. I didn't see last week's vase of course, so I am pleased you have been able to retain much of it and tweak it today with your well-chosen additions, and your wreath is greatly enhanced by your tweakings. Best wishes to you and your family for this festive season
ReplyDeleteI did a double take myself when I spotted Narcissi in 2 separate locations of my garden this weekend, Cathy! Another neighbor's garden is showing a smattering of paperwhites so I'm guessing that the warmer temperatures (as opposed to rain!) made the difference. The green and blue Lisianthus (Eustoma grandiflorum) I used in last week's vases are generally long-lived but I suspect my current use of "flower food" in the water is make a difference too. We'll see if they give this week's Grevillea flowers a boost - those seldom hold up for more than 4 days.
DeleteBeautiful! I like your wreath upgrade. I sure hope you get the rain for the holidays. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tracy. Fingers crossed!
DeleteOh how heartening it is to see narcissi Kris ❤️ Here they are only just poking through pots undercover. Your leucadendron flowers and ribbon are the perfect finishing touch for the wreath and really bring it to life. I hope that Santa delivers an early Christmas present to you in the shape of rain on Christmas Eve. Wishing you peace and joy at Christmas đ
ReplyDeleteThat wreath did need something a little extra, didn't it? Have a happy Christmas Anna!
DeleteAs I was scrolling through, I was planning to comment on how beautiful your first arrangement is...and while it is gorgeous, that wreath is equally lovely! We are having a mildish Christmas this year, but it will be white because we got some snow a couple of days ago. Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your white Christmas, Beth! I'll settle for at least a damp one ;)
DeleteThey are both such happy Christmas arrangements Kris - I really love those red accents on the wreath from the Leucadendron. Hope you get rain soon, and wish you and your family a very Happy Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cathy. Best wishes for a wonderful Christmas to you and your family too!
