Wednesday Vignette: More Pink!

Pink is not my favorite color but a look at my summer garden might suggest otherwise.  The Lisianthus (Eustoma grandiflorum) I've featured in my vase posts for weeks are mostly pink.  Now, Callistemon 'Cane's Hybrid' has produced a fresh flush of pink blooms.  When I purchased the plant in 2015 I'd convinced myself that the flowers were more peach than pink - but they're pink.  They're very pretty, though, and the plant is a bee magnet.  It's a last minute choice for this week's Wednesday Vignette, the meme hosted by Anna of Flutter & Hum.

Photographed from this direction, the Callistemon blooms don't look particularly abundant.  (Some of the remaining pink Lisianthus insisted on photobombing the shot.)

The majority of blooms are on the east-facing side of the plant

We've got a strong breeze going, blowing the branches this way and that.  This was the best close-up of a flower and a bee that I could manage but most flowers have 2 or 3 bees buried in the blossoms.

  1. I love the graceful shape of your Callistemon! We have several very compact dwarf Callistemons dotted around as "landscaping" plants (there's no rhyme or reason to the planting and I'm still trying to decide what to do with it!). I'd love to have some with that open, elegant growth habit...

    1. I have 2 other Callistemon (one still in its pot until I can verify its flower color as the grower could only give me 50-50 odds) but I absolutely adore 'Cane's Hybrid'. I'd have bought it for the foliage alone. You hit it on the mark with your description: it's open and elegant. The flowers are really beside the point.

    1. I thought of Grace when I posted about this plant, Kathy. Of course, I bet she'd like those Lisianthus too.

  3. I just love standing there watching happy bees roll around in the flowers. That's a very pretty Callistemon - love the long leaves and the grey bark too. And the shot with the rooftop and the harbor far below is delicious. You really ARE on top of the world! Beautiful!

    1. We really are pretty lucky with our view - there are plenty of more expensive homes around here with worse views. We got a deal! I took the long way home from an appointment this afternoon and drove along the coast. I need to do that more often - it's a major boost to my psyche!

  4. I'm not a fan of pink, but your callistemon is a really pretty plant.

    1. It's a little bit on the peachy side of pink, don't you think?!

    2. Yes! It is a little to the shell pink side. Pinks trending to coral are OK in my book, but never the sweet, candy pinks trending to lilac.

  5. It is a slightly peachy shade of pink and very pretty. And you, of course are the queen of the shakkei. Absolutely stunning and always different according to the weather.

    1. The view of the harbor is usually clearer in the late afternoon when the wind finally clears away the prevailing haze - I have to remember that.

    1. It's funny how the colors in the garden evolve, seemingly without any intention on my part.
