Our recent weather has had a distinctly tropical feel. Temperatures have soared into the 90s (32+ Celsius) with higher than normal humidity. Rain has skulked about us but, although the desert and mountain areas have received some measurable rain, the sky has done nothing more than spit at us. Sunday was one such day, characterized by low clouds. Then, in early evening, the sun broke through the clouds and briefly turned the Los Angeles harbor to gold.

Ah, very nice. Yesterday was fun. It was 102, then the clouds came over and the temp dropped to 94 and it felt so refreshing!!!
ReplyDeleteThe golden light over the harbor is pretty, but I like the last photo best. What with the large fire pouring smoke into the sky and with the monsoonal cloudiness, we have been having glorius sunsets, haven't we?
Yikes, it's hot out your way! Our max temp yesterday was 93 and, when the storm blew in, it dropped to the upper 70s while humidity skyrocketed. It did feel cool by comparison, yet still soupy. The gray-brown smear over the harbor hasn't left us since the Big Bear fire started.
DeleteI never tire of looking at your view. Marvellous.
ReplyDeleteIt's prettiest at night, when you can see the harbor and city lights (but not the shipping cranes).
DeleteLos Angeles was literally glowing!
ReplyDeleteIt was!
DeleteAh, that late-day golden sunshine is so beautiful! You captured it well.
ReplyDeleteIt only happens on occasion but of course that makes it all the more special.
DeleteGosh L.A. certainly shines in that golden glow. You have such a beautiful view :-)
ReplyDeleteLA doesn't often have such a golden hue - and it never lasts long.
DeleteWe had a beautiful gold sky the other day. It was hard to capture with my basic camera but oh so pretty. I hope the rain will head your way. :o)
ReplyDeleteWe had tropical conditions again today but it never rained. Summer rain is VERY unusual here but I'm hoping for at least one good downpour to refill my rain collection tanks - I'm down to the last one (albeit the largest).
DeleteYour weather doesn't sound much more comfortable than ours, but that view at sundown is glorious. Glad you had your camera available! We've had a chance of rain for about three days now, but have so far seen only increased humidity, wind, lightning, and blowing dust. And an estimated twenty raindrops two nights ago... Rip-off ;-)
ReplyDeleteLiving through intense heat and humidity, not to speak of thunder and lightening, really should have a pay-off, shouldn't it? Fingers crossed that we get more than spit from Mother Nature, Amy.
DeleteThat sunset is a glorious one! I know you'd rather be seeing rainy skies in your part of the world. The rain train has slowed down here somewhat, but for us to make it to July and not have turned on the automatic watering system is a first for us.
ReplyDeleteI was unrealistically hopeful that the latest tropical weather system here would deliver more rain and refill my collection tanks, Deb. The system is moving out now without leaving any measurable rain behind.
DeleteWhat a beautiful moment of light. You have such an amazing view from your home. You can see all the ants marching about while you can sit back in the peace and softness of your gardens and escape it all :)
ReplyDeleteWe need a telescope (or the zoom of a camera lens) to see detail, Jennifer, but it's fun to see the large cargo and cruise ships pass through the channel to the harbor.
DeleteI have said it before Kris, that view of yours is to die for, regardless of the weather! Living here in London and only see across the street I envy you a view like that :-)
ReplyDeleteWe were lucky to find this house during the last downturn in the local real estate market, Helene, although as my husband has complained, the cost included the higher temperatures associated with living on this side of the peninsula.
DeleteStunning photo, what a view! All bathed in gold, it looks magical.
ReplyDeleteIt felt a bit like magic, Chloris, when that shaft of light transformed the harbor, seemingly in an instant.
DeleteWow!
ReplyDeleteMariana
Beautiful gold light! When the sky only spits at you it's tempting to spit back. Of course, the spit would just land on your face and make you even madder so probably best to vent your frustration some other way.
ReplyDeleteHow could I possibly have missed this??? Oh well - better late than never, I suppose. I can't believe your view - it is astoundingly beautiful! And when the Death Star sets it all aglow like that - WOW! Incredible...
ReplyDeleteSpectacular!
