I'd thought that my lilies might be something of a loss this year. Only 'Orange Planet' had made an appearance. But it seems that I gave up too soon. I spotted a single flower of 'Montego Bay' last week and, by Sunday, I had six flowers. They were well hidden below and behind 'Orange Planet'. I cut all of them as it made no sense to leave them where they were, where neither I nor anyone else could see them.

I've also discovered that I have at least one other lily in the wings - 'Friso', I think. 'Pretty Woman', one of my favorite lilies, appears to be producing stalks, although I'm not convinced they're going to amount to anything. I've no idea where either 'Zelmira' or 'Zeba' may be hiding, but maybe they'll surprise me. In the meantime, the dahlias are looking more promising each week.

Gorgeous! Love the colors. Having the flowers bloom in an awkward spot ended up being a gift. You HAD to cut them.
ReplyDeleteI did indeed, Tracy! It's lucky that I remembered where it should be, though.
DeleteYou have some of the most stunning flowers....variety and color. That is a lily color I am so smitten with. I wish I could still grow lilies as this would be on my list.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised when I discovered I could grow some varieties of lilies, Donna!
DeleteYes, if they can't be seen where they are, it seems far better to cut them. These look lovely with the alstroemeria and the added foliage
ReplyDeleteI was pleased that I was able to find some Alstroemeria still in bloom at this time of year. Early summer heat often sets them back until cooler temperatures return.
DeleteOh! I love the color of Montego Bay', that's beautiful and you've done it up right.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to remember to plant more 'Montego Bay' bulbs next year somewhere in a more visible spot!
DeleteL. Montego Bay' is a beautiful color. What a great surprise for them to all open for use in your arrangement today. The vase you chose echoes nicely with the flowers.
ReplyDeleteYes, I decided that I also had to choose that vase this week ;)
DeleteMontego Bay is doing right by you and looks gorgeous in the vase. Garden surprises are the best. A.melia.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that lily didn't give up om me after all!
DeleteWhat a perfect combination, Kris. The mossy green colors of the porcelain vase bring out the warm greens of the foliage and the unopened Lily bloom. Love those deep oranges and reds! And the Alstroemerias work so well with the Lilies!
ReplyDeleteI was very pleased with the combination myself, Beth ;)
DeleteA very pleasing combo, Kris. The oranges complement each other perfectly and the Agonis is an ideal accent. You have a great eye for it! Hope the lilies continue to pop and its good to hear the dahlias are coming along. Eliza
ReplyDeleteThe 'Friso' lily is definitely on its way, Eliza!
DeleteGood morning Kris. Your lilies are absolutely gorgeous! So glad you spotted them and cut them to share with us! As usual you have also found the perfect foliage and fillers to match. Hope all is well with you and your garden. 🌻
ReplyDeleteEverything is as well as can be expected at this point in time, Cathy ;)
DeleteI immediately looked up Lilium 'Montego Bay' with an intent to purchase, but online photos hardly resembles the lilies in your vase. Whatever the name it's very special and you are lucky to have those stunning lilies.
ReplyDeleteChavli
I'm pretty sure that one is 'Montego Bay', Chavli, but it's had me fooled before!
