  1. Your photo prompted me to google for the cost. 25 million per year for 3 blimps!

    1. I've never ridden in a blimp but I understand the rides cost a small fortune. I've periodically heard of them being offered as prizes offered during special events. I see them relatively often as their docking station is just off the 405 freeway east of us but I can't remember ever seeing one flying so low over the port.

  2. Now that would be a rare sighting around these parts! :) Eliza

    1. Too many trees there I expect! I understand that there was a blimp extravaganza in Akron, Ohio in June of this year to celebrate Goodyear's 100th anniversary, though.

  3. Practicing for a flyover of the Rose Parade and Rosebowl game? Where I used to live, close to Angel Stadium, we'd see the thing moving slowly towards the stadium for Rams games once in a while. The engine had a distinctive buzz. Dog Ziggy was terrified of it, the only thing that actually ever scared him. Otherwise, he was completely unflappable.

Nice to see the pics! Lovely days these days, eh? Foggy morning, golden afternoons. :) Plants happy!

    1. I'm not sure I'd ever seen a blimp until we moved here. In the last few years, I see them frequently, albeit not cruising as low as this one.

The fog here has been intense for the past week - until this morning. Weather Underground is currently showing a 78% chance of rain starting Tuesday night - dare we hope?!

  4. I love myself a good blimp! I'd love to ride in one!

    1. Based on what I've heard, you need to invest a chunk of change or win a raffle or contest of some sort to get that ride, Gerhard!

  5. Now that's something you don't see every day. Very cool!

    1. We don't see them every day either, but once a week or so isn't unusual, especially during the summer months ;) Their docking station sits off a major freeway to the east of us.

  6. Wow, great captures! You have such a great location for viewing these types of things. I think I'd like a ride in a blimp...are they safe? But, as you say, the cost is prohibitive. Fun to watch them, though!

    1. I haven't heard of any accidents involving the blimps, Beth. Unlike the infamous Hindenburg air ship, which used hydrogen gas, the blimps get their lift from helium gas.

  7. Back when the World's Fair was held in my hometown of Spokane, Washington, the Goodyear blimp spent a lot of time overhead. That thing was loud! Fun memories, thank you!

    1. Fortunately, the blimps usually pass by far enough from us that I'm saved the noise!

  8. I've never seen one of those before. I know hot air balloons are quite loud, having been near those. I can only imagine what these might sound like. Cool, they must be huge!

    1. I generally don't hear them at all but I guess that's because they stay far enough away from residential areas - or maybe the noise in the port area is enough to drown them out!
