Even though several commentators had a favorable impression of the second arrangement I presented last week, I wasn't at all happy with it. Starting with the same silver foliage of Centaurea 'Silver Feather', I decided to attempt a do-over this week. While I'm not exactly over the moon about it, I'm more satisfied with this version than last week's creation.
One stray Lisianthus (Eustoma grandiflorum) flower opened last week so it received pride of placement front-and-center |
Much as I love Lisianthus, I almost prefer this back view of the arrangement, which emphasizes the beautiful foliage of 'Silver Feather' |

With flowers still in short supply, I stopped at one arrangement this week. It's been a long time since I've done that but last week's first arrangement featuring a Phalaenopsis orchid, Leucadendron 'Safari Sunset' and Mangave 'Bloodspot' bloom spikes, is still in near perfect condition and I have a few other vases also kicking around the house that I haven't shared online so I wasn't driven to create another arrangement. What a good idea to rework the vase you were not happy with - and it has indeed made a difference 👍
ReplyDeleteThanks Cathy. I gave the Centaurea a hard pruning yesterday so making another stab at using it in a vase was really a now or never proposition (this year anyway).
DeleteYour tinkering with the arrangement proved successful. I like the restraint abundance of it. Good choice of vase and the accompanying toad!
ReplyDeleteOh, the toad spends a good amount of time in that location by the front door, although holiday decorations will soon push him out of the way for awhile.
DeleteThat's lovely Kris. I prefer the back view too… that silver foliage is so lovely, especially with the pink Correa and the Pennesetum.
ReplyDeleteI love that Centaurea, even if it hardly bloomed this year ;)
DeleteI like the way the grass plumes and the centauria arch outwards together. Their colours complement each other perfectly.
ReplyDeleteThe Centaurea and the Pennisetum were made for pairing I think. Funny that I didn't realize it until now - they're planted right next to each other!
DeleteLove, love the Red Pennisetum with the Silver Feather set off by the Lisanthus - the balance looks great with the vase. Wonderful
ReplyDeleteThanks Amelia. The Lisianthus was a surprise. It's either blooming very late for 2021 or very early for 2022.
DeleteNice do-over, Kris. I esp. love the combo of the pink bells of Correa and the feathery silver fronds – pretty!
ReplyDeleteI'd originally intended to pair the silver foliage with blue and purple but that seldom-used Correa was crying out for attention, Eliza.
DeleteWell, I like them both!
ReplyDeleteThanks HB!
DeleteThat is a beautiful gentle arrangement Kris. I love the grassy plumes, lovely colour and they bring a soft elegance to your vase! Nothing from me again this week. The storm we had a couple of weeks ago wind burnt everything that was worth picking, which was such a shame. Have a good week. Amanda
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry your garden got pummeled by a storm, Amanda. I hope better weather is ahead.
DeleteVery successful make-over, Kris! The Centaurea shines in this arrangement and I love the lisianthus and the Leucadendron. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteThanks Susie. That Lisianthus was a surprise but I don't see any sign that any more are waiting in the wings, at least not this month.
DeleteThat silvery foliage of that Centaurea is just fabulous! I also love the little Correa bells. A variegated Correa was one of the very last plants I bought from Joy Creek before they closed their doors. I still haven't found it a good spot, but will likely overwinter it in relative safety in the shed and plant it out in spring.
ReplyDeleteI hope the Correa does well for you, Anna. I grow variegated 'Wyn's Wonder', which has done well for me but obviously your climate is very different. All Correas aren't created equal either - I've lost a couple of them for no reason I could discern.
