The second vignette features my green-eyed cat, Pipig, who became enamored with a cardboard box sitting at the front door waiting to be carried to the recycle bin.

| Pipig used to love boxes but, as she's gotten older, she's shown less interest in them. She's very fond of this one and sits in it frequently (at least during her limited waking hours). For that reason, it's still sitting in the entryway. |
The last photo features the vivid blue color of Salvia cacalifolia. I neglected to include any of my Salvias in my last Bloom Day post and as I seldom get a good photo of the blooms on this one I wanted to share it.

I think I'd call that cobalt. Love the shot of Pipig. Strangely, my current cat shows no interest in boxes. His mind is a mystery to me.

DeleteMitch's cat (extended visit at our house!) prefers the computer keyboard. Great light over the harbor!
ReplyDeletePipig is jealous of time spent at the computer when she's present and desirous of being petted but she's never taken her annoyance out on the keyboard (thank goodness!).
DeleteThe magical golden light in the midst of gray always feels so peaceful to me in my little garden and you've got an amazing and expansive view to experience it. Love the Pipig shot!
ReplyDeleteThe golden light is always a short-term effect, lasting merely minutes. I usually don't grab my camera in time to capture it.
DeleteLove your salvia Kris. I think the dark is Ultramarine, the lighter blue is cerulean. The sunset effect is spectacular.

ReplyDeleteMy guess on the boxes is that there must be smells they pick up in transit, Jane. At least that's the only way I can explain why some boxes are found attractive and others are ignored.
DeleteInteresting views. Nothing like Mother Nature showing off. Sweet Pipig doing a cat thing. She doesn't look old. I won't tell her you are spreading that kind of rumor. The salvia is a rich cobalt blue with cerulean lips. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteOh, I don't think Pipig thinks of herself as old, Lisa. (I'm convinced she thinks of herself as the Empress of the Universe.) The vet's labeling of her as a "senior cat" actually took me back as she's certainly capable of kittenish behavior.

ReplyDeleteWhy buy expensive pet toys when boxes and paper will do! We're socked in by the marine layer and Pipig has retreated to her more cozy cat bed, in the apparent believe that winter has returned.
DeleteYour Salvia is so pretty--love that blue! OMG, the LA harbor is magical in those moments! I must say, when I lived out there for a summer, I never had the chance to see the harbor at that magical time of day from the hills. Great shots! (I know the cat-in-the-box view very well. My kitties do that, too--so cute!)
ReplyDeleteThe glowing harbor isn't a common occurrence, Beth. It requires a healthy cloud cover, which is uncommon in late afternoon/early evening during the summer months in particular!
DeleteI know that effect--here at certain times of the year, the hills turn coral pink. Not a sweeping a view, though.

ReplyDeleteIt'd be a long ways to come to see a fleeting (and unpredictable) light effect, Pat! However, most people like the night view better. The view of the Independence Day celebrations over the harbor and beyond is pretty good too.
DeleteI vote cobalt. :) Pipig is adorable. My old kitty likes to gnaw on box edges, not sure why (boredom/anxiety?) so we periodically replace them when she shreds them down. Cats and their boxes!
ReplyDeleteI have 2 cardboard scratchers available to Pipig, in addition to a climbing tree and a rope-covered scratching post, in a vain effort to keep her from sharpening her nails on my rugs. I think she uses the rug to signal annoyance...
DeleteThe golden glow over the LA Harbor is amazing; how fortunate you are to have an equally amazing garden overlooking the harbor! But my favorite photo was cat in box - too cute!
