Flutter & Hum sponsors a weekly post featuring images she and other bloggers have found interesting. I'm joining in again this week with a few photos captured while looking out onto the Los Angeles harbor from our back garden. The first image, taken yesterday morning, is perhaps the most dramatic.
|
The marine layer is back, bringing temperatures down but blanketing the morning sky in clouds. In this photo, the sun had broken through a hole in the cloud cover to bathe a section of the harbor behind the Vincent Thomas Bridge in a pool of silver light. |
The second and third photos show the moon's rise over the horizon on Saturday evening.
|
When I first noticed the moon rising, it looked as though it was balanced on top of the hills in the distance, only half-hidden in the haze above Long Beach instead of entirely obscured as is usually the case. By the time I grabbed my camera, the moon was already well on its way upward but it still looked massive and neatly mirrored the lights shining in the harbor below. |
|
The view a little later as night fell, before the moon reached the pinnacle of its upward trajectory |

So beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jane!
DeleteAll three shots are stunning but that first shot is breathtaking. Absolutely exquisite. If I'd taken a shot that grand I'd be grinning every time I looked at it (which would average at least once every fifteen minutes for the next few days). It may be time to put in a new header photo...bringing another layer of meaning to the "late" in Late to the Garden Party?
ReplyDeleteYour photos are all wonderful, Deb!
DeleteSuch a stunning vista. That moon-rise is just spectacular!
ReplyDeleteThe size and color of the moon as it rose was such a surprise, Matt.
DeleteGreat shots! Especially that first one, with the sun breaking through the clouds.
ReplyDeleteI have my cat - and my husband - to thank for that photo. The cat threw up on the living room rug and my husband yelled at me about cleaning it up. (She is, after all, "my" cat.) Anyway, those things put me in the living room at the right time.
DeleteWow Kris - that first one could be an altar painting. What an incredible view you have - no matter what time of day. Stunning...
ReplyDeleteThe view is more magical at some times then others but, yes, we're lucky.
DeleteYowsa! The first picture is incredible; the second, with it's pretty pastels, reminds me of a water color painting and the third - who doesn't love blue and gold together. My views all consist of neighbors' homes although we can see part of the bay if we stand on our roof
ReplyDeleteWhen we lived in a rental apartment in Santa Monica, we had a similar view - you could see the glint of the ocean if you stood on the roof. At our first house, you could see the ocean if you walked west a few blocks and squinted between buildings. Our current view is a BIG change.
DeleteThat first photo looks like we should see God Himself descending any second. :) Love the moon shots too.
ReplyDeleteThat (1st photo) was a lucky shot in terms of timing but you'd be surprised how often we see that phenomenon over the harbor.
