The Western Scrub-Jay, the 2nd most annoying bird in SoCal only to be topped by the Northern mockingbird which I find to be bolder and much more aggressive. We have one here which starts its evening serenades about midnight to 4 AM. At least the Scrub takes evenings off.
I'm not sure I'd recognize the mockingbird (even though I just looked up a picture of it). They're probably here too, Eric, but the noisy scrub jay is the only one I've noticed scaring off the smaller birds to hog the fountain.
The best thing about the fountain we inherited with the house is the attraction it has for the birds, Deanne. I always wanted a fountain as a garden feature but now neither I nor the birds could do without it.
I too am more of a private bather (the world breathes a collective sigh of relief.) What fun you must have watching your avian friends enjoy your fountain! Thanks for sharing the joy!

DeleteAbsolutely adorable! What pretty birds. They look like they're thoroughly enjoying themselves.
ReplyDeleteThe fountain is a major draw, Amy, especially during the summer months.
