He's been back regularly, slowly nibbling away at the 2 remaining mini pumpkins. This year I just hope they don't lose all their leaves before they finally decide they can turn!Amy@SmallSunnyGardenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02490564566463354419noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8574540292918761182.post-85431369770470559262017-11-26T14:56:58.371-08:002017-11-26T14:56:58.371-08:00I spent a good portion of Saturday working on the ...I spent a good portion of Saturday working on the back slope, Jessica. While it's neater than it was, the space still depresses the heck out of me as it could be so much more than it is. One day, maybe next fall, I'll hunt down the resources to help me deal with it. And, no, squirrels NEVER give up - or perhaps they're just slow learners. I caught another one trying his best to get into one of my "squirrel buster" bird feeders again this weekend. To his credit, he tried a new (though ineffective) strategy.Kris Petersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07097260283693156795noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8574540292918761182.post-2027659385805694602017-11-26T14:51:37.370-08:002017-11-26T14:51:37.370-08:00It's definitely cooler here today, Libby, and ...It's definitely cooler here today, Libby, and tomorrow is expected to me cooler still. Our fall here in N.C. arrives so much later than I am used to from New England/Hudson Valley...but still, it does arrive. Our Japanese Maple was brilliant last week, but totally bare now. The marine layer moved in here this morning and deepened as the day wore on - by mid-day I couldn't see the ocean anymore, although it remained clear at our elevation. Meanwhile, the squirrel continues to work on the mini pumpkins - he's tried to carry off both of the remaining 2 but they're still too unwieldy for him so he just nibbles away.Kris Petersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07097260283693156795noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8574540292918761182.post-59897735124584407762017-11-25T17:12:20.071-08:002017-11-25T17:12:20.071-08:00I almost included a photo of my Euphorbia tirucall...I almost included a photo of my Euphorbia tirucalli 'Sticks on Fire' in my post, Diana, just because it sings with the colors characteristic of autumn leaves in colder climates.Kris Petersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07097260283693156795noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8574540292918761182.post-21702238484614029312017-11-25T15:57:41.740-08:002017-11-25T15:57:41.740-08:00Your heat wave even made the news out here. 90 is ...Your heat wave even made the news out here. 90 is way too hot! I know about the going from green straight to brown thing. Although we do get fall color here, I think it's mostly our natives that have adapted to our dry summers. Other trees and shrubs sometimes close up shop here early in August by going straight to brown and dropping their leaves.Alisonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16323262555906240701noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8574540292918761182.post-5980303002615278792017-11-24T21:56:15.846-08:002017-11-24T21:56:15.846-08:00Glad you found yourself a little autumn color, and...Glad you found yourself a little autumn color, and how kind of you to share your pumpkin “pie” with the wildlife...danger gardenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09227500551609537140noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8574540292918761182.post-4810987148690417712017-11-24T17:47:28.091-08:002017-11-24T17:47:28.091-08:00Your tree identification looks to be spot on, MDN....Your tree identification looks to be spot on, MDN. Ginkos, Chinese pistache, Crepe myrtles and Japanese maples are all widely planted trees here and the strong fall colors in the vineyards adds to the autumn atmosphere. But the 'crisp' fall days are absent..it was almost 70 the past 2 days. That squirrel ! There are plenty in my neighborhood but they have shown no interest in anything in my garden unless I fill the bird feeder. They seem to prefer running along the fence line and climbing the neighborhood trees. kshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10847026541797857854noreply@blogger.com
